News Brief Glenwood Heads to State

Staff Report

May 6, 2012

Glenwood Springs Mock Trial had four teams this year. Missing from the March 3 article about the Mock Trial’s success at the regional tournament was mention of its fourth team, according to Mock Trial head coach Charlie Willman.

Team Red was comprised of nine freshman: Rorey Freeman, Alex Rachesky, Sarah Fleming, Valerie Flores, Ellie Tomasso, Mattea Pederesen, Genny Oliva, Garrett Goodstein and Chyna Tuttle; and one sophomore, Mariah Kadrmas. They were coached by Wayne Smith, who also teaches the mock trial class at the high school.

Due to the rules of the Colorado State Mock Trial Competition, only three teams are allowed to officially participate from any one high school. Glenwood Springs High School’s program, however, had 34 students who wanted to participate, so a fourth team was formed this year.

Regional tournament teams allowed Team Red to compete as a bye team, giving the odd team out in each round another chance to compete rather than sit out.
