Evan Mandl Carrington of Glenwood Springs, Colorado, was tragically killed in an automobile accident on June 20, 2016. He was 18 years old. Evan had thoroughly enjoyed his day in Denver and was nearly back home when the accident happened, just east of Gypsum. According to Colorado State Patrol, Evan was wearing his seatbelt, driving the speed limit, not on his phone, nor were drugs or alcohol involved. The Carrington family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the three brave men who stopped to assist Evan immediately following the accident. Although Evan was already gone, we are grateful for all that they did, and it brings much comfort knowing that Evan was not alone. We thank Evan for his decision to be an organ and tissue donor, which allowed for his death to help others.
Evan was born June 25, 1997, in Glenwood Springs. He was the first born child of Monty and Jane (Pfeiffer) Carrington, and the older brother of Emily, Aidan, Anna and Bridget Carrington, all of Glenwood Springs. Evan’s education was rich and varied; St. Stephen’s Catholic School, homeschooling, and most recently Glenwood Springs High School, where he was looking forward to his senior year.
Evan’s time with us was short, but he left a lasting impact on many. His intellect, wit, ability to always see the humorous and bright side of life, no matter the circumstances, along with his irrepressible smile, will be dearly missed. Evan lived each day to the fullest, driven by the pursuit of knowledge and the desire to innovate. His fascination with gadgets started at a young age, spending time with his Papa, and developed into a love of building his own creations. Evan particularly enjoyed metalworking and woodworking, but also loved drawing, writing, film editing, and countless other creative endeavours. For the past three years, Evan was part of the GSHS Mock Trial Program, of which he was extremely proud. While gaining self-confidence was a great benefit, an even greater reward for Evan was the many wonderful friendships he made and treasured. Evan was a joy to be around and will remain in our hearts always. We look forward to the day when we are reunited with him.
Evan was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Clay and Darlene Carrington.
Evan is survived by his parents and siblings; his maternal grandparents, James and Rose Mary Pfeiffer; his maternal aunts, Mary Corbet, and son, Brady (Mona) Corbet and daughter, Ada, Sharon Myers, and daughter, Jessica Myers, Linda (Scott) Ruddell and children, Tim (Katie) Ruddell, and son, Benjamin, Ashley (David) Totten, and Ryan (Becca) Ruddell; maternal uncles Tim Pfeiffer, and daughter, Savanah, John (Rebecca) Pfeiffer and daughter, Lacy (David) King; paternal uncles, Chris Carrington and Dean Carrington; loving granduncles, grandaunts, and a large extended family. Evan is also survived by the “munchkins”, Martha & Herriot & Bella.
A visitation and rosary service was held June 23, 2016, at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church. A funeral Mass was held June 24, 2016, at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, as we remembered the gift of Evan’s life and returned him to God. Evan was cremated and his ashes buried alongside his great-grandparents, Jack and Mary Carrington. Following his internment at Rosebud Cemetery, family and friends gathered for a Celebration of Evan’s Life at Glenwood Springs High School.
